This was the fifth year in a row that I’ve performed my Comedy Stage Hypnosis Show at BorderFest in Hidalgo, Texas. Each year the Festival theme changes to honor a specific country of the world. This year the theme was, Celebrating the Cultural Treasures of Mexico.
BorderFest is the largest and oldest cultural and musical heritage festival in South Texas. This was the event’s 37th year with more than 100 entertainment groups on 16 stages throughout the grounds at the State Farm Arena.
The event includes: stage entertainment, food, crafts, exhibits, strolling entertainers, and illuminated night parades. During that time the attendees saw all the music, costumes, color, fun, and the flavors that Mexico brings to mind.
The event featured a special “Plaza Mexico” area that included a custom built giant pyramid, Mexican artists demonstrating their crafts, Folk Dancers, Mariachis, and the Voladores de Papantla (shown here in a video by Steve Ellington).
BorderFest has been dedicated to cultural enrichment, arts education, and heritage preservation in South Texas since 1977. More than 85,000 people attend this award winning event which has been selected as “Best Festival in the World” for their budget category for five years by the International Festivals and Events Association, and ten years straight by the Texas Festival and Events Association.
